The Darkest Dungeon community has always been very active in creating more content for the beloved franchise, adding anything from character skins, to entirely new maps and enemies. The second installment is no different in that regard, and the mod creators have already accumulated a sizeable collection.

From quality-of-life changes to item system reworks authors are aiming to improve the overall experience with the game or increase the replayability value for those that have already explored every nook and cranny. Whether players are looking to change a system they aren’t particularly happy about, or completely flip their journey towards the Mountain, there are already plenty of options for them to choose from when it comes to mods.
10 Better Trinkets
Trinkets have always been a core part of gameplay, and some of them can be a hit or miss for some players. Certain trinkets have negative stats accompanying the positive ones, sometimes making the trinket not even worth equipping.
This mod does a good job of reworking more than 40 trinkets, aiming to make them more interesting and interactive. With this mod, there are many new builds and comps that the players can play and experiment with, greatly shaking up the gameplay.
9 Four Quirks
Quirks can really make or break a run, as players might get really nice bonuses to their abilities, or huge negative effects to their stats, stress, etc. In vanilla, the number of positive and negative quirks caps out at 3 each, leaving room for many interesting combinations.

This mod increases that number to 4, allowing for even more unique mixtures of quirks, leading to even crazier builds and situations. This adds even more randomness to each run, which can be viewed as a positive or a negative by some players, but it is up to them and the RNG gods to beat the new odds!
8 Stagecoach - Increased Inventory Space
Managing item inventory can get quite tricky, especially toward the end of a run. Trinkets, items, and the many currencies of the game can quickly clog up the default stagecoach, forcing players to get rid of items they might otherwise need.
This mod greatly expands on the available storage, lifting a lot of that management pressure off players. The mod also provides the option to sell to merchants players might encounter along the way, such as The Hoarder, Field Hospitals, and more.
7 All Skills Equippable
By default, all heroes are limited to only having 5 skills equipped during the battle phase. Managing which ones to take is part of building a balanced team, as well as testing the players’ preparedness and knowledge of an upcoming fight.

With this mod, however, players can freely experiment with the full skills list, as well as test the full potential of each character. While it may make things quite easier, it can be quite a lot of fun to blast enemies with everything a hero’s got!

This mod aims to balance out some of the more negative and hindering perks, as well as round out the frequency that the special actions occur, giving a more grounded feel to the whole system.
4 Sellable Items With Optional Overflow
Aside from adding the ability to directly sell items the player wouldn’t need otherwise, this mod adds a lot of mechanics to item management, such as currency exchange, overflow, and many more. Whether players want to lower the general prices or tweak certain numbers in the economy to suit their playstyle, those options are available to them.
The Wheels and Shields overflow mechanic is particularly nice, as certain events can now benefit the player’s stagecoach, without feeling like those encounters are lost or useless.
3 Permanent Bounty Hunter
Bounty Hunter has always been a popular character in the franchise, and many players have been upset that in the second installment, it is exclusively a hireable hero that does not even stay for the full run, or even consistently appear.

With this mod, players can reliably make team compositions around him, as well as permanently enjoy the unique abilities and playstyle that he provides. The mod authors have also reworked some of the abilities, giving the option to enjoy an effectively new character.
2 Always A Mastery Point In Combat
The Mastery Points system can feel quite frustrating at times, as not all combat encounters guarantee them, but rather have a set chance to reward them after completion. Being short on these points can really throw off an otherwise great build or run, and this mod creator has done a great job of changing that.

The players can decide which specific encounters will now always grant a Mastery Point, tailoring their own experience and difficulty, according to their preference.
1 More Trinket Slots
It’s not difficult to see why this is the most popular mod on the platform, as many players enjoy playing around with new builds and playstyles, and getting even more power out of their beloved heroes. Players can choose exactly how many extra trinket slots they would prefer, allowing them to tune things just the way they like them.
Paired with other trinket mods, this one can really bring a whole new level of complexity to how the characters are built, and the game itself is played. If balancing is not an issue, this is a really fun option to try!
